Mitähän tästäkin oikein tulee? Virkkaaminen voisi olla hedelmällisempää, jos päättäisi ensin ja tekisi vasta sitten. Ei ehkä tarvitsisi purkaakaan niin paljon. Vaan ei se mitään, terapiavirkkaamisessa lopputulosta tärkeämmäksi muodostuu itse tekeminen. Siispä tämä lankakerä on jo kahdesti muuttunut pipontapaiseksi ja takaisin keräksi. Kuinkakohan kauan pystyn jatkamaan samaa rataa?

A New Try

Wondering what this is going to be. Crocheting could be more productive, if I wouldn't do anything until I've decided what I'm going to crochet. That way I may not have to undo and redo that much. But who cares, in therapy crocheting doing is so much more important than the resolution. And that's why this ball of wool has transformed twice to a beanie and back. Let's see how long I can keep this going on.

Ikomin paperinmakuinen teemaviikko päättyy tänään, ja ryminällä. Vuorossa jotain ihan muuta, nimittäin kuva-kuvalta -ohje legorannekorun tekemiseen.

Ikomi's paper themed week is going to end now, big time. Coming up something totally different: a pic by pic -tutorial to make a lego bracelet of your own.


1. Tarvitset: Legopalikoita, kaksi pätkää pyöreää ja ohutta kuminauhaa (kummankin tulisi yltää kaksi kertaa ranteesi ympäri), kaksi silmäneulaa, helmiä, poran, pihdit ja sakset.
1. You need: Lego bricks, two pieces of round and thin elastic band (both pieces should go twice around your wrist), two needles, scissors, a drill and tongs.


2. Valitse haluamasi värisiä legopalikoita, suosittelen vähintään seitsemää, (omassani on kahdeksan), mutta tarvittava määrä riippuu ranteen koosta ja välissä käytettävien helmien kokoluokasta.
2. Pick the right amount of Legos in color(s) you like. I recommend at least seven (mine has eight), but it depends on the size of your wrist and the size of the beads used in between the bricks.


3. Poraa reikä jokaisen palikan kumpaankin päähän.
3. Drill a hole to the both ends of each brick.


4. Pujota kummankin kuminauhan päähän silmäneula, silloin saat ne helpommin rei'istä läpi.
4. Put a needle in the one end of both elastic bands. So it will be easier to get the band through the holes.


5. Neula on helpompi saada reiän läpi kiskaisemalla pihdeillä. Pujota kuminauhoihin vuorotellen legopalikoita ja helmiä kuvan osoittamalla tavalla.
5. Use the tongs to pull the needle through the hole, it's easier that way. Thread the bricks and beads to the elastic bands by turns, as shown in the picture.


6. Jatka kunnes olet saanut kaikki palikat ja helmet kuminauhoihin. (Katso taas mallia kuvasta.)
6. Continue until you've got all the bricks and beads to the elastic bands. (Look at the pic again.)


7. Pujota kummankin kuminauhan loppupää ensimmäisen legopalikan taakse, solmi tiukalle solmulle.
7. Thread the ends of the elastic band behind the first brick, do a tight-fit knot.


8. Leikkaa ylimääräiset päät saksilla ja...
8. Cut the extra ends with the scissors and...


9. ...tadaa, valmista tuli! Käytä minkä tahansa asun kanssa tehdäksesi siitä erikoinen.
9. ...tadaa, you're ready! Use with any outfit to make it extraordinary.


10. Jos kuitenkin on niin, ettet tykkää näpertämisestä tai omista poraa, tai jos lapsesi on legoistaan liian mustasukkainen, voit tilata omasi Ikomin nettikaupasta.

Kuvapäiväkirjan lähtökohdasta ei ikävä kyllä ole kuvaa, mutta kansi oli mustaa selkämystä lukuunottamatta harmaasävyinen ja kissanpentukuvioinen. Siinä oli myös etukannen yli vedettävä musta kuminauha. Olen aina inhonnut kuminauhamuistikirjoja, vaikken sitä perustella osaakaan. Harkitsin ensin liimavani kissoille tekoviikset, mutta se ei oikein tuntunut riittävältä. Niinpä päällystin sitten saman tien koko kirjasen.

Kangas on alunperin IKEAsta ostettua ja tyynynpäällisistä yli jäänyttä. Levitin kanteen askarteluliimaa ja vedin kankaan päälle (1.). Selkämystä en vaivautunut fiksaamaan, se kun oli jo siisti. Sitä paitsi selkämyksen päällystäminen aiheuttaa aina kummallista kupruilua ja ryppyilyä sitten kun kirjan avaa. Etukannessa (2.) koristeita on hieman enemmän kuin takakannessa (3.), sillä kirjoitan lähtökohtaisesti aukeaman oikealla sivulle, ja napit tekisivät alustasta epätasaisen.

Kuten kulmista (1.) näkyy, työn jälki ei ole maailman siisteintä. Innostuin ja toteutin ideani nopeasti, enkä jaksanut kaivaa esiin edes teräviä saksia, vaan natkuttelin tylsillä menemään. Sisäkannet ovat sotkuiset ja rumat, onneksi niitä ei tarvitse katsella. Etusivu (4.) tosin muistuttaa siitä, ettei homman ole tarkoituskaan olla liian vakavaa. Sotku on jees, sitä kun on kuitenkin kaikkialla. (Paitsi tällä hetkellä täällä, kiitos kahden päivän siivousputken.)

The Cover Story

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the notebook before covering it, but it was grey and had kittens in it. First I thought I could just glue fake moustaches to the kittens, but that didn't meet the case. So I covered the whole book.

The fabric is originally bought from IKEA and is leftovers from cushions. I put some glue to the covered and pulled the fabric over it (1.) There are more decorations on the front cover (2.) than the back cover (3.) I usually write on the right page, and buttons on the back cover would make it more difficult.

The quality of the work isn't the best possible, but as the first page reminds, it's not too serious. I got exited so I didn't plan, just created. There's mess everywhere anyway, so why to make a problem of it. (Well, at the moment this apartment is a mess free zone, as I've cleaned for two days.)

Kun Etsyn kautta tuli tarjous Moon käyntikorteista, oli ihan pakko kokeilla. Olin harkinnut kokeilupakkausta ennekin, mutten silloin saanut aikaiseksi. Kolmen ja puolen euron postikuluilla sai 50 ilmaista korttia omilla kuvilla (tai piirustuksilla, maalauksilla jne.), eri kuvan voi ladata vaikka joka korttiin. Ilmaiskorteissa on alhaalla tuo valkoinen mainospalkki, maksamalla siitäkin olisi päässyt eroon. Sama paketti ilman mainoksia olisi maksanut noin kympin+postikulut, mutta halusin ensin testata pienemmällä panoksella.

Kaikki korteissa olevat kuvat ovat itse otettuja, monet täältä tuttuja. Takapuolella on ylälaidassa kapea kuva ja yhteystiedot, ei mitään mainoksia. Takapuolen ulkoasussa on monia vaihtoehtoja, muutenkin pääsee itse säätämään aika paljon. Kuvat eivät oikeasti ole noin rakeisia, kiiltävä pöytä saa mattapintaisen kortin näyttämään kummalta. Olisi niitä kiiltävämpinäkin saanut, mutta minä halusin valita 100% kierrätetystä paperista tehdyn vaihtoehdon.

Jos kaipaa käyntikortteja, suosittelen lämpimästi tätä firmaa. Kortit oli helppo tehdä, mielestäni ne ovat kohtuuhintaisia ja prosessin etenemisestä lähetettiin ystävällisiä sähköpostiviestejä. Myös muunneltavuus on mielestäni mahtavaa. Tuotteita on muitakin, esim. minikäyntikortteja, tarroja ja kutsukortteja. Paketin mukana tulleessa mainoksessa kerrottiin, että firma valmistaa samalla periaatteella myös postikortteja. Arvatkaa vaan, iskikö hillitön kokeilunhimo...

When I got an offer of Moo business cards via Etsy I just had to have a try. With 3.50€ of shipping costs I got 50 cards with my own pic and design. It's possible to choose a different picture to every card if wanted. Because this is the (almost) free sample there's that white ad bar in the bottom, with paying a bit more you can get rid of that too. A pack of 50 cards would have cost approximately 10€ + shipping costs without the ad.

All the pictures I used are taken by me, most of them are seen here before. On the backside there's a narrow picture bar and contact information. There were many different designs where to choose from when making the backside. In real life the pics aren't that grainy, the shiny surface of the table makes them look a bit weird. There were a shiny option as well, but I chose the ones made of 100% recycled materials.

If you need business cards I can warmly recommend this company. It was easy to make the cards, the prices are reasonable and they sent me kind emails to inform me about the progress. The variability is a good thing too in my opinion. There are other products too, e.g. minicards, invitations and stickers. With my package I got an ad that told they also make postcards with the same system. Do I even have to say I want to order them so badly at the moment?
