Takkutukkapojalle // For the boy with messy hair

Joskus tuo ensimmäisen kuvan tukka tuntuu olevan kaikkialla.

Pallon tekeminen on helppoa.

PS. Olen tehnyt uudelle vuodelle käsityöaiheisia suunnitelmia, joista kerron täällä lisää myöhemmin. Antaa vuoden vaihtua ensin. Oikein hauskaa juhlintaa teille kaikille!

Sometimes it feels that hair captured in the first picture is everywhere. And the picture doesn't give justice to it - in real life that hair is way bigger, messier and much more annoying. Sometimes I wish I could cut it off during the night...

The boy under the hair uses a lot hair bands, and loses even more of them. There's many of theme all around the house, but when he needs one, well, then it's impossible to find any of them. That's why I gave him a hair band ball for Christmas. Now he can get a new one from the same place when the previous one disappears. And during this week I've noticed the ball also works contrariwise. Every time boy finds one he yells ha! and wraps it around the ball. After a week the hair band ball has got bigger, not smaller.

It's very easy to make one. I don't have pictures of the process, but you should be able to create one after reading this. Take two hair bands and tie them together so they make a little bundle. Start wrapping the rest of the hair bands around the bundle. In the beginning you may have to wrap one three times, and soon your fingers and wrists start to hurt. But don't give up! Soon the bundle has got so big you only have to wrap one band twice, and in the end you don't have to wrap anymore, just slide the bands around your little ball. Make sure you have enough hair bands when you start, so yours doesn't end up too tiny. The one I made holds approx. 80 hair bands and fits perfectly in my hand.

PS. I've made some crafting plans to the year 2011 already, but I'll tell about them later on. Let's celebrate the turn of the year first. Have a great New Year's Eve everyone!

Ystävälle // For a Friend

Norsiksen inspiroimana oli pakko kokeilla magic yarn ballin käärimistä. Onneksi keksin ihmisen, jolle sellainen sopi mielestäni loistavasti lahjaksi.

--- --- ---

Inspired by Norsis I had to try making a magic yarn ball. Luckily I have a friend whom to give one for Christmas, I thought it would be a perfect gift for her. And it was so fun to make! The idea of magic yarn ball is to wrap things inside the ball so the only way to find them is to unwrap the yarn. I was proud of myself when I managed to wrap the items inside the ball that way you couldn't see from outside what's hiding in there. I left the bow brooch on top on purpose, and after that ended up handing it like that, without any additional gift wraps. It was too cute to be hidden in my opinion.

Pinkkiä joulua // Waiting for a Pink Christmas

--- --- ---

The Christmas tree in our kitchen is made of three twigs, pink scrap yarns and color-coordinated ornaments. Make yourself one like this: wrap yarn around the twigs. In the beginning wrap the yarn over the yarn end so it doesn't show. In the end make a tight knot around the twig and cut off rest of the yarn. Put your twigs in a bottle (or a vase, but I only have on vase and it's occupied wit the living-room tree right now). Hang some ornaments to the twigs with yarn scraps.

I also made the sequin-filled balls myself. The fillable balls are bought from a craft shop, and can practically hold anything. It could be a new holiday tradition - to fill the ornaments with different things every year. At the same time it would be an easy way to refresh your ornaments without buying new ones.

This Christmas I had more ornament ideas than time to make them. I had bought or collected materials for some before I realized I don't have the time, so I might be doing some ready for next Christmas. And who says Holidays are the only time you can decorate your home?

Joulupuu on rakennettu // Oh Christmas Tree

--- --- ---

This year I didn't buy a Christmas tree (we usually prefer real trees in Finland, so we need to buy a new one every year) but made my own by putting some branches into a vase and hanging my ornaments on them. The book case in the background is so colorful the tree doesn't look good in the photographs, but is bigger in real life. The ornaments are made by covering some old balls with scrap yarns. I really like the result: my tree is beautiful, unique and not too traditional. The only thing I miss is the smell of a fir tree, but if I would find some fir twigs and put them into another vase, that problem would be solved too. In our kitchen I have another, self-made Christmas tree. It's different than this one, so I'll show you some pictures soon.

Rakas Joulupukki... // Dear Santa...

Terveisin,
Inari

...In case I was nicer than you expected this year, and you don't have enough gifts in store for me, I whipped up this last-minute wish list. Any of these would make crafting funnier next year.

Love,

Inari

Uudet vaatteet // New Clothes

Ennen // Before

jälkeen // after

Ostin kirpputorilta ison pussillisen joulupalloja.

--- --- ---

I found a bag of Christmas ornaments from a charity shop. The very worst kind: flashy colors and glitter all over. But it doesn't matter, if you crochet new clothes for the ornaments. Just use all kinds of scrap yarn and make different color combinations. I have one ready now and about ten waiting for the transformation.

I promised you a giveaway, and one is coming soon. A little later comes the pattern for the panda hat, which won the poll with 55% of votes. But first I have to finish some Christmas things and clean the house, as I'm celebrating my graduation on December 26th. Back to work for me, see you soon!

C'mon Baby Light my Flowers

--- --- ---

I admit, this ain't a new thing. I made my first one a year ago. I left those flowers in London, so I made new ones now, this time from old book pages. And I love this even more than the first edition. If you want to try, this tutorial helped me when making the lilies. It may seem confusing at first, but when you learn it, your hands start to do it themselves.

Hence, I've started the holiday decorations now. This one might be staying at it's place though, even after Christmas.

Vielä kerran // One More Time

Yleisön pyynnöstä: pandahattu päässä. Sekä muutama huomio:
- toista korvaa pitää siirtää hieman
- viikset on jees

--- --- ---

By demand: the panda hat on my head. And some notes:
- I have to move one of the ears a bit
- moustaches are cool
- the hat would look even better, if it was worn properly, not on the back of my head
- my photographer usually gets artsy on the wrong moment
(like when you go to the balcony without proper clothing to take photos "just quickly" and then almost freeze to death when the whole process takes too long.)

Seiska // Number Seven

Hupsista. Mikä on sinun? Oikeasta sivupalkista löytyy ihan pieni kysely, josta voit valita suosikkisi.

--- --- ---

Oops-a-daisy! It's a new week already, but I'll still show you the last hat. I have to say this is my favourite of all the hats shown during the theme week. Which is yours? On the right sidebar there is a teeny-weeny poll where you can vote your favourite. Cause I'd like to know, which one you prefer. I'm also planning to write down and share the pattern for the most popular hat, so go vote if you wanna make yourself your favourite.

I don't know about you, but I'm kinda sick and tired of hats right now. Next I'm going to craft and show something totally different. It might be that Christmas time starts even here in Ikomi, and I start to hang the decorations here and there. Have to make the decorations first, though.
