Rannekorussa on neljä isoa keltaista nappia, korvakoruissa yksi kummassakin.

--- --- ---

One of the biggest colour-related tragedies in my life is that yellow doesn't suit me. I can't use yellow clothes without looking greenish with my face, but yellow accessories are OK. Luckily, cause it is one of my favourite colours.

There is four big buttons in the bracelet, and one in each earring. There is a loop made of the string in the other end of the bracelet, so it's possible to close it with putting that last red bead through the loop. The black string is cotton, so it doesn't stretch. I tried a stretchy elastic band at first, but somehow it didn't work.

The third picture includes a warning: if you fall asleep next to the crafting kitten, you may end up as a earring rack without knowing it.

Superia! // Super!

Tein löytöjä kirppiksen krääsäpussista, ja löydöistä sitten koruja. Marioon ilmestyy jonain päivänä ketjukin, kunhan kerkeän. Erityisesti tykkään Marion sienestä.

--- --- ---

I found these from the flea market and couldn't resist making jewelry out of those. Mario is still waiting for a chain, but it's coming some day, I promise. I especially love his mushroom.

Näppäilyä // Keyboarding

Erityisesti rakastuin noihin korvisnäppäimiin, kiteyttävät jotensakin täydellisesti tämän hetken tunnelmat. Siinä samassa sitten syntyi muutakin. Miau-teksti on rintakoru, palikat on liimattu pahvinpalalle. Myös korvisten takana on pahvia. Sormuspalikan liimasin pohjaan ihan sellaisenaan.

--- --- ---

I fell in love with those keys used in the earrings, they crystallize how my life feels at the moment. 'Miau'-text is a brooch, the keys are glued on a piece of cardboard. There is some more cardboard behind the earrings, but the key used in the ring is glued straight to the ring base.

Vielä hengissä // Still Alive

Huh huh. Viimeiset pari päivää olen hoitanut askarteluasioita kuin, no, viimeistä päivää.

--- --- ---

Phew. Last few days I've been working on a bigger project, preparing a thing ment to many kids at the same time. It has meant a lot of drilling, organizing, assorting, and gathering up the supplies. Finally everything's done and the bag waiting in the hall is heavy. I'm afraid I've forgotten something. I'm afraid someone will glue one's fingers to the table. Well, someone else than me. After that time I glued my hand to the sink I haven't turned a hair of such things.

I'm quite sure I can tell something more tomorrow, at least with pictures.
But I'll have to ask the parties involved first.
This time pictured some Lego jewelry I made on the side
I made other things too, so hopefully the next week won't be this silent.

Saalistaja // Predator

Korvakorut on tehty jo Lontoossa, tavaratalosta ostetusta laukkukorusta.

--- --- ---

I'm showing you something really small today. Because I'm working on bigger projects at the moment, so I have less to write about. A moment ago my sewing machine was buzzing in the kitchen, first time in a long while. Until I realized it's not a good idea to start sewing without instructions or patterns on a Sunday afternoon when you're tired.

These earring are made in London, out of a bag charm I bought from a department store. I took it to pieces and made my asymmetrical earrings out of them. Rest of the pieces were used in a necklace I made later.

Hullun koruntekijän teekutsut // Mad Jewelrymaker's Tea Party

No, tässä lopputulos.

--- --- ---

I love coffee cups and when one breaks, I usually don't wanna throw the pieces away. The one that broke today was kinda light and thin, so I decided to try to do something out of it. Riikka suggested I would do some jewelry, and so I tried. Well, here's the outcome.

First I broke the cup a bit more, wrapped it in a piece of cloth and hammered. When I had kinda nice pieces I sanded down the sharp edges. I had to do it for a while to make them smoother, but now I won't hurt my fingers anymore. It wasn't possible to drill the pieces, so I just clued the eye pins on the backside of the earring pieces. Then I decided to make a brooch, and randomly picked the piece with the handle. And cause it had more character, I fell in love with it. Well, I have no idea how wearable this will be as a brooch, but does it matter when it's so pretty?

Muistoja // Memories

Koruja, joilla on muistorikas tarina.

--- --- ---

When me and my sister were kids, we played with these dishes in our doll's house. Now, when no-one is playing with these anymore, I transformed the old toys to jewelry. These pieces have a memorable story.

Juhlapäivä // In a party

--- --- ---

Today I celebrated the birthday and graduation party of my sister-in-law-to-be, with button jewelry. I also has a necklace made of them, but it's gonna get a post of it's own later on. As a gift I gave a pair of unicorns and a very important quote.

Parisuhdekorvikset

Relationship Earrings

I bought the cows at the same time than the bears for the bear day -earrings. They are all from Tiimari, a Finnish chain of stores that sells toys, craft supplies and almost everything small. In our local store they have started to sell these teeny plastic animals and I had to buy a few even though I think 1€ per piece is way too much. But they were like made for earrings, small and light enough.

I thought I bought two cows, but later on at home I realized the other one was a bull. I was wondering the different shapes of their heads or something like that before I turned them over. Yeah, the case is kinda clear if only on of them has udders. A daughter of two biologists says hello. I blame the hurry, usually I can tell a cow and a bull from another.

But in the end, this made a cute couple to dangle from someone's ears. It doesn't matter they're not similar, as they are clearly a match made in heaven. I actually think it's even more fun this way, than if there had been two cows. What a lovely mistake.

Karhuntai

PS. Karhuntain nallekarkkikakusta löytyy kuva Muistikirjan puolelta.

Bearday

Bearday is a local (in other words apartment 1 c 57-wide) holiday celebrated on Fridays. It is held due to celebrating all kinds of beards and other hibernating, round-eared creatures. On a Bearday it is allowed to eat goodies, roar as much as you like and act bear-like in any way. Especially the other part of this relationship goes in for beard-like behavior, yours truly prefers acting catty. All the cats are celebrated on Caturday, which is known as Saturday in normal people's calendars.

The earrings in the picture are Bearday-themed. I haven't made anything cat-related lately, so it may be there won't be any theme post tomorrow. But you can never know in advance, as productive cat is productive.

P.S. A pic of the Bearday's gummy bear cake can be found in the Notebook.

Legoleikkejä, osa 2

Nappikorvakorut
7 eriväristä paria.
Jokaisen palikan taakse liimattu
pala valkoista pahvia ja siihen korvakorupohja.
(Ilman pahvinpalaa pohja hujahti
takana keskellä olevaan reikään,
eikä sitä saanut liimattua tukevasti mihinkään.)

Playing with Lego bricks, part 2

Stud earrings
7 pairs in different colors.
Behind every brick I glued a piece of
white cardboard and then the stud to it.
(Without the cardboard it was impossible to
glue the stud well and neatly as it was too small
and fell into the hole in the middle.)

Vuosi päättyy valoon

1.

2.

3.

Inspiraatio syntyi vanhempien luona käydessä, kun sähkökynttelikön vierestä löytyi kaksi irtolamppua. Olen kerran nähnyt jossain sellaisista, tosin pienemmistä, tehdyt korvakorut, ja himoinnut sellaisia siitä asti. Kysyin, saanko lamput.

Valoisaa uutta vuotta!

Light at the End of the Year

I found my inspiration from the window sill of my parents': two small light bulbs originally meant to a Christmas candelabra. Luckily my dad had saved the old ones that didn't work anymore, in case somebody would find out how to reuse them. Well, I did. I once saw a pair of earrings made out of old light bulbs and have been wanting a pair since.

The necklace (1.) has a chain made out of black wooden beads and smaller, clear glass beads. The pendant (2.) has one light bulb and two butterflies in a chain. They are remains of a bag charm I bought from London and used earlier to made a pair of earrings. When placing them on the same level with the light bulb I was thinking moths, but I'm not sure if these butterflies look like them at all. On the other hand, there is no light at the bulb, and no one will care about it either.

I think I'll try to find a new home for the necklace, as it isn't exactly my style. But I'm definitely going to keep the earrings (3.), have used them already. They are perfect: beautiful and a bit silly. Just my kind of accessories.

With these pics I want to wish you all nice and bright New Year!

Yksinkertaista vihreää

kuva 1/ pic 1

kuva 2 / pic 2

Teitä on varoitettu.

Kaulakoru (kuva 1) on tehty pikkuveljelleni.

Koruntekoa helpoimmillaan. Seuraavaksi suuntaan energiani tuunaukseen ja vaihdan alennusvillatakkiini iloisemmat napit.

Simple and Green

From now on it will be possible to read this blog in English as well. This is one of my New year resolutions and probably the easiest one to keep. So if you are a new reader and wonder what happens here: this is a craft blog. It includes all kind of crafty projects and haberdashery things seasoned with my long not-alwas-so-related explanations. Mostly jewelry and other accessories, but other things as well. Welcome to read this, and please leave comments whenever you feel like it. I don't believe I'm gonna translate the old texts into English soon, so if you are interested in something you see among my earlier posts and can't read the text, just email me and I'm gonna tell you more.

So, the green necklace (pic 1) is made of a plectrum I bought when I went to a music store to buy some for my brother. He got a guitar for Christmas, and when he grows up he's gonna be a super star guitarist with the coolest band in the world. Well, everything after the comma is creation of my imagination, but anyway, i wish all the best for him and his guitar. Cause plectrums were so nice and colorful, I bought some for jewelry purposes as well. I already sent this one for my brother, so he had one plectrum he can't loose that easily.

Green earrings (pic 2) are made of plastic whistles bought from Camden market in London. I just replaced the key rings with hooks, and tsadam, that was it. Simple. Quick. And green.
